America River Cruise in Your Own City
River City Condos is offering you a chance for the greatest America river cruise ever. You’ll cruise the great rivers of the United States without ever leaving home. All you have to do is buy a condo in River City’s floating condominium communities. A River Cities condo is like any other condo, except that it floats. On a river. Each “River City” will contain 185-200 condominiums for the 350-400 residents aboard. Residents share the costs of fuel, staff salaries, insurance and docking fees. In the summer you’ll cruise the northern rivers and in the summer you’ll cruise the southern rivers and Intracoastal Waterways.

Oops Factor
On paper this looks like a fantastic idea. In reality I think the “oops” factor is huge. A lot of what happens in the floating city is up to the residents, including “This River City will cruise continuously and make stops at places the community would like to visit.” Good lord that sounds disastrous. Four hundred people are supposed to agree on what happens day to day and where to stop? I’m guessing most of the residents will be retired, which puts them in their 60’s-70’s. My mother’s bridge club of 10 can’t come to an agreement on what to have for lunch. How does River City cruise expect four hundred senior citizens to agree on anything. Anything.
Life on the Floating City
Life on the floating city will include swimming pools, hot tubs, gym, a walking course, restaurants (for an extra fee), a lounge, a chip golf green and a library. Resident will have access to 6,600 miles of navigable waterways in the US and some of the most prominent cities along the way. You can stop in Red Wing, home of Red Wing Shoes. Or Peoria, home to Caterpillar Inc. Or Cape Girardeau, “the only inland cape in the world.” Except the “cape” no longer exists. The only part that remains is a rock that can be seen from an overlook in Cape Rock Park.
And I love this bit from the River Cities Condos website: “River Cities will attempt to be ADA compliant whenever possible concerning handicapped accessibilty (sic) issues.” Attempt to be ADA compliant!? A 400-person community of mostly senior citizens and you’re going to “attempt” to be ADA compliant? Begin the head shaking.
Cost
Condos range from $299,000 for a 528 ft unit to $900,000 for a1494 ft unit. Monthly HOA fees range from $1,166 -$2,040.
