European River Cruise Lines are Canceling Cruises

Scenic Tours

I’m seeing reports that low water levels on European rivers are forcing river cruise companies to consider other options on  their upcoming sailings.

Avalon Waterways has canceled the departure of its “Highlights of Germany” river cruise due to low water on the Danube River between Regensburg and Nuremberg. The cruise was due to begin on July 19, sailing from Passau to Basel. Avalon Waterways is offeing affected customers the option of another European river cruise on a similar departure date or a full refund with a future cruise credit allowance.

There’s also talk that Viking River Cruises informed passengers on Eistla that ship changes might be necessary during their July 19 cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest.

Uniworld has not made any changes. Yet.

“As of today, all our cruise programs are operating as per schedule; however, the water levels are low on the Rhine, Main and Danube so we are monitoring the situation closely,” the line said in a statement. “The safety and security of our guests and crew is our top priority, and we have contingency plans in place should any sailing schedule deviations become necessary.”

Scenic Cruises is so fa so good on its Jewels of Europe itinerary. “Scenic has contacted all guests with imminent departure dates and we’ve communicated all of the information we currently have. We’ve advised that we’ll continue to keep them updated before their departures on Monday. In the event that Scenic needs to make other arrangements, we’ll ensure that no attractions nor sightseeing are missed.”

Ah, the dangers of taking a river cruise.
